Centre should confer Bharata Ratna on NTR
TDP founder ushered in welfare-driven politics
NTR’s 25th death anniversary observed
AMARAVATI: TDP National President and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday paid rich tributes to TDP founder and former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao, saying that NTR gave a new definition to politics by bringing in a new era of welfare for the weaker sections and backward classes.
Mr. Naidu called upon the people and the party cadres to fight against the YCP suppression with the inspiration provided by NTR. During his time, the rival party launched attacks on the property of NTR and TDP activists. But NTR came out and fought it out by launching an indefinite hunger strike.
The TDP paid floral tributes to NTR statue at the party central office here on the occasion of the 25th death anniversary of the TDP founder. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naidu said that if the YCP leaders were thinking of eliminating the TDP with harassment and victimisation, they were just daydreaming. NTR had laid strong foundations on which the TDP cadres have been fighting for people with ethics, integrity and fearlessness.
Mr. Naidu asserted that every TDP worker should take inspiration from NTR and fight like a ‘Bobbili Puli’ (Bobbili Tiger) and ‘Kondaveeti Simham’ (Kondaveeti Lion). The YCP could nothing in the past 20 months and it could not pluck even ‘grass’. The only thing that the ruling party achieved was filing false cases and making false arrests of the TDP leaders. Instead of arresting the culprits in temple attacks, cases were being filed against the TDP just for questioning the desecrations.
Demanding the Centre to confer ‘Bharata Ratna’ on NTR, Mr. Naidu said that it should be given considering the outstanding services made by NTR at the national level. It was NTR who brought all non-Congress parties including the BJP and the Left parties on a single platform. NTR’s role in providing an alternative to the Congress was memorable. It has been the strong wish of the Telugu people for conferring ‘Bharata Ratna’ on NTR. The TDP would fight for the same.
The TDP chief recalled that NTR had brought in many landmark policies which included the right to property for women which the Government of India has also made into a law eventually. Special efforts were made for women education and a Mahila University was formed as part of this. NTR also ushered in several people-friendly initiatives like mandal and single window systems for administrative convenience.
Mr. Naidu said that NTR strove for empowerment of the weaker sections and brought in 27 percent reservations for the BCs for the first time. Only with that inspiration, the TDP has been going forward with a ‘service motto’ and justice to everyone in the last 39 years. The YCP was using rowdyism to suppress the TDP but its games would not be successful. The TDP would fight back and it was ready to make any sacrifice for the cause of the people. The TDP would pay back the YCP harassment with interest.
The TDP chief lauded the services being rendered by the party cadres by taking part in programmes like ‘Legendary Blood Donation’.
Earlier, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu responded on the statements about NTR Ghat demolition, saying that to resort to such an act would be like destroying the very culture of Telugu people. NTR was a matter of pride for the entire country.
The TDP chief stressed the need for bringing back ‘Rama Rajyam’ which alone would be a fitting tribute to NTR’s determination and commitment. It was an undisputable fact that NTR was the pioneer of welfare-driven policies. The party founder has provided inspiration for the TDP’s continuous struggle for the cause of upliftment of the poorer sections.
In a separate statement, TDP National General Secretary Nara Lokesh recalled how NTR proved one could rise to greater heights with determination and hard work. Though he was born as a simple farmer’s son, NTR went on to create records in different fields of excellence. NTR achieved sensational political victory at the age of 60 years and created history by handing over a welfare rule to the people.
Mr. Lokesh said that the TDP founder’s sole objective was to provide property rights to women, empowerment of the weaker sections and welfare programmes for the people.
